Put It Up for the World to See: CADs Hailed as Champion in Skechers 6

On its sixth year as the premiere dance competition in the country, the Skechers Street Dance Battle 6 brought together the best high school and college dance groups to battle it out for dancing supremacy in the Big Dome last November 20. Only one was duly crowned as the best from each division. Winners brought home a hundred thousand pesos as well as the claim to ultimate bragging rights!

The crowds went wild in the Big Dome as the Company of Ateneo Dancers (CADs) wowed the audiences with their unprecedented dancing prowess and taking it to the next level. Many can attest that watching CADs’ breathtaking performance was indubitably spine-tingling and goosebumps-inducing. Armed with a menagerie of highflying stunts and an array of mesmerizing choreography that kept the crowd wanting more, CADs’ competition piece was a spectacle that no words can truly express other than those in the lines of amazing and astounding.

Even before CADs was officially declared winners of the college division, the crowd from the Ateneo side of Araneta already went wild with anticipation. It was a very tense moment for all. When UP Streetdance Club (UP Diliman), a crowd favorite and worthy contender, was declared as having won first runner-up, the Ateneo side and CADs supporters all over cheered even harder hoping and knowing in their hearts that CADs would bring home the prize, but with or without the trophy they were already winners that night.

“They hail from a street called…Katipunan!” one of the hosts said of the winners. Those words were all it took for everyone in the Ateneo side to jump around and scream their lungs out. CADs had won!

Announcing the winner proved itself to be a very emotional moment for all the CADs members present in Araneta. There were gleaming faces, tears of joy, warm embraces and an overall feeling of pride at what had been accomplished. Winning first place in the competition definitely stood testimony to all the months of hard work and effort by all the people involved which culminated in that night’s memorable performance. This victory gives the entire Ateneo community something to be proud about. One cannot forget the performers who took to heart the painstaking preparations to perfect their routine. This is the same for the production members who worked diligently behind the scenes and hand-in-hand with the performers in making everything possible. This goes the same for everyone that gave CADs their full support; this victory is for you too, but more importantly it was for and thanks to Him who made it all possible. In the end, all the sweat and tears, bruises and lost voices were definitely worth it!
