Rhythm-in-Blue: "CULTURE SHOCK" Eliminations

Every year, the Company of Ateneo Dancers hosts Rhythm in Blue: an inter-org dance competition. This year’s RiB carries the theme: culture shock. Every participating organization needs to incorporate the culture of the particular country they picked out of a box beforehand. Examples of this year’s choices were Spain, Egypt, China, Korea, among others.

RiB: Culture Shock’s elimination round was held tonight, September 13, in the MVP Roofdeck at 4:30 in the afternoon. Twenty-two organizations participated in the eliminations this year, which was judged by Vyen Villanueva, Jazz Zamora and Reflex Castillo. Criteria for judging included execution and cleanliness, as well as compliance with the rule of incorporating the country. Additional points were given for contemporary or jazz segments in the pieces and for audience participation. Indeed, it was quite a turn-out for the audience, who filled up practically the entire roofdeck. They cheered effectively for the orgs they supported, all of whom gave wonderful and entertaining performances.

Once all of the organizations had performed, a freestyle dance session was conducted while the judges collated the results. The freestyle battle greatly entertained the audience and definitely kept energies high, despite the humidity of the weather. As well as all of the organizations did, only ten could go on to the finals. And after much deliberation, the judges handed over the list.

Congratulations to AMA, PMSA, BOx, MEcO, AtSCA, CompSAt, AJMA, SPEED, AMS and ARSA for making it to the final round. Catch them battle it out for the top prize on September 22, Wednesday, 6 in the evening at the Henry Lee Irwin Theatre. Tickets are priced at Php150. Come through and give your support!
