The 23rd Dancelebration was held in the Teresa Yuchengco Auditorium at De La Salle University in Taft at 7 in the evening of February 6. Hosted by the La Salle Dance Company –Contemporary (formerly Jazz), this is the longest running dance competition in the country.
Every year, the Company of Ateneo Dancers enters two teams, one for the street category and one for the contemporary. CADs Jazz has won this competition thrice in a row already and CADs Street has placed the past two years. Though we didn’t place this year, it doesn’t mean our pieces were any less awesome.
With the theme of the competition, Youth for the Nation, in mind, CADs Street gave us a story for their competition piece. They narrated without words the trouble and frustrations of peer pressure and the difficulty of making yourself heard. They showed the importance of paying it forward and the harsh realizations of regret.
CADs Jazz, on the other hand, took the theme to a different path. They showcased a beautiful semi-cultural piece highlighting the grace and strength of the Filipina. Through their skill and talent, they were able to exhibit the message of hope, hope for a brighter future for the country.
We congratulate the winners of the competition; for the Street Category: Assumption College – 3rd, University of the Philippines A – 2nd, University of the Philippines B – 1st; and to De La Salle – College of St. Benilde for winning in the Contemporary Category.
Though neither of our teams won, we stand that we did our best and are glad to at least have gotten our message across. Congratulations to our teams, as well, they were amazing.
