We know it’s a late update, but we’re updating all the same.
CADs Rhythm-in-Blue
The day before Typhoon Ondoy hit, September 25, the Company of Ateneo Dancers hosted RiB: Rhythm in Blue, an Inter-Organization Dance Competition. Ten orgs competed for the top three places at the Henry Lee Irwin Theatre. The theatre was packed with supporters from the participating organizations, as well as people who simply wanted to watch. RiB was hosted by T3, which is comprised of Reflex Castillo, Timmy Nolan and Phillip Pamintuan. The night opened with the National Anthem and invocation by Cyril Belarmino. T3 then proceeded to introduce the judges, who, by the way, are all CADs alumni: Meg Mariano, now a member of Hot Legs, Kit Gutierrez, member of The Manoeuvres and Niko Bolante of Groovejackz.
The first half of the concert comprised of the competing orgs starting with MeCo. After a 15-minute intermission, CADs performed their own pieces for the second half. Guest performances by Dollhouse and 3-time RiB champions, BlueRep were also showed in the second half. When all were done, T3 went back onstage to announce the winners. MEA won 3rd Place, AJMA 2nd Place and YFC winning 1st.
We would like to congratulate all the organizations who participated in the competition, you all did a wonderful job.
Maximum Groovity and Skechers Streetdance Battle 5
Maximum Groovity 5 and the Skechers Streetdance Battle 5 Eliminations that were scheduled in the next two days following RiB were subsequently postponed because of the typhoon that wreaked havoc on our city that weekend. Maximum Groovity 5 instead was held on October 3, still at the Crossroads Convenarium in Crossroads 77. Two teams from CADs competed against 23 other teams from different schools, CADs Jazz and CADs Street.
CADs Street was the 22nd to perform their dance themed Mad Scientists. 24th were the jazzers, whose theme was Battlefield. When finally all the teams had performed, the winners were announced. Taking 2nd Runner-Up was CADs Street; 1st Runner-Up was CADs Jazz and the champion was the Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP). It was special, not only because CADs dominated the awards, but also because it is the first time that CADs Jazz has ever won Maximum Groovity.
On November 21, CADs again brought home recognition, this time in the Skechers Streetdance Battle 5 finals. Held in the Araneta Coliseum with 15 colleges and 10 high schools joining the competition, the Skechers Battle is the biggest dance competition in the Philippines. CADs placed 2nd Runner-Up in the college division, after La Salle Dance Company and UP Streetdance Club (who has won the competition 4 times to date). We would also like to congratulate IndAK, the Ateneo High School dance group, for winning 2nd Runner-Up as well in the High School category (1st Runner-Up: LSGH Airforce; Champion: Claret Hataw).
CADs is very proud of all teams and especially proud of those who were competing for as members of the organization for the first time. We would like thank everyone who have shown their support to CADs.
